GST’s Weather Group installed the DirectMet2 Satellite System at the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin American and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), in Panama. The DirectMet2 ground system provides GOES-16 satellite imagery, and produces meteorological satellite imagery that is further integrated with data from the World Area Forecast System (WAFS). The recent devastating hurricanes that struck Central America indicated the need to advance weather detection, monitoring, and warning infrastructure in Panama, for which systems such as DirectMet2 can play a key role.
